Why Are We Facing Another Armageddon?

horizontal rule

First: It is obvious that the prophecy of the Book of Revelation and the prophecies of the NT in general were for those who heard them or were the first to read them-and all were limited to the context of First Century Events. Those people were facing the "Armageddon."

Note: NT prophecies all speak, ultimately, of Christ's (ongoing) Victory. Here are a number of examples.

Protection And Victory For The Righteous

Some Would Still Be Alive:

Matthew 16:28 Verily I say unto you, There be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the Son of man coming in his kingdom.

Mark 9:1 And he said unto them, Verily I say unto you, That there besome of them that stand here, which shall not taste of death, till they have seen the kingdom of God come with power.

Luke 9:27 But I tell you of a truth, there be some standing here, which shall not taste of death, till they see the kingdom of God.

The End of Death:

Isaiah 25:8 He will swallow up death in victory; and the Lord GOD will wipe away tears from off all faces; and the rebuke of his people shall he take away from off all the earth: for the LORD hath spoken it.

Hosea 13:14 I will ransom them from the power of the grave; I will redeem them from death: O death, I will be thy plagues; O grave, I will be thy destruction: repentance shall be hid from mine eyes.

John 8:51 Verily, verily, I say unto you, If a man keep my saying, he shall never see death.

John 11:25 Jesus said unto her, I am the resurrection, and the life: he that believeth in me, though he were dead, yet shall he live: 26 And whosoever liveth and believeth in me shall never die. Believest thou this?

2 Tim 1:10 But is now made manifest by the appearing of our Saviour Jesus Christ, who hath abolished death, and hath brought life and immortality to light through the gospel:

Rom 6:11Likewise reckon ye also yourselves to be dead indeed unto sin, but alive unto God through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Rev 1:18I am he that liveth, and was dead; and, behold, I am alive for evermore, Amen; and have the keys of hell and of death.

Warning The First Century Audience Of The Judgment Of The Wicked In Their Life Time.

Matthew 3:7 -Luke 3:7 ..... O generation of vipers, who hath warned you to flee from the wrath to come?

Luke 13:1 There were present at that season some that told him of the Galilaeans, whose blood Pilate had mingled with their sacrifices. 2 And Jesus answering said unto them, Suppose ye that these Galilaeans were sinners above all the Galilaeans, because they suffered such things? 3 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish. 4 Or those eighteen, upon whom the tower in Siloam fell, and slew them, think ye that they were sinners above all men that dwelt in Jerusalem? 5 I tell you, Nay: but, except ye repent, ye shall all likewise perish.

Matthew 22:12 And he saith unto him, Friend, how camest thou in hither not having a wedding garment? And he was speechless. 13 Then said the king to the servants, Bind him hand and foot, and take him away, and cast him into outer darkness; there shall be weeping and gnashing of teeth.

23:34 Wherefore, behold, I send unto you prophets, and wise men, and scribes: and some of them ye shall kill and crucify; and some of them shall ye scourge in your synagogues, and persecute them from city to city: 35 That upon you may come all the righteous blood shed upon the earth, from the blood of righteous Abel unto the blood of Zacharias son of Barachias, whom ye slew between the temple and the altar. 36 Verily I say unto you, All these things shall come upon this generation.

24:20 But pray ye that your flight be not in the winter, neither on the sabbath day: 21 For then shall be great tribulation, such as was not since the beginning of the world to this time, no, nor ever shall be. (First Century Context.)

Luke 19:42 Saying, If thou hadst known, even thou, at least in this thy day, the things which belong unto thy peace! but now they are hid from thine eyes. 43 For the days shall come upon thee, that thine enemies shall cast a trench about thee, and compass thee round, and keep thee in on every side,

Luke 21:21 Then let them which are in Judaea flee to the mountains; and let them which are in the midst of it depart out; and let not them that are in the countries enter thereinto. 22 For these be the days of vengeance, that all things which are written may be fulfilled.

Luke 23:28 But Jesus turning unto them said, Daughters of Jerusalem, weep not for me, but weep for yourselves, and for your children. (KJV) (Again: First Century Context.)

To Whom Was The Book Of Revelation Addressed, And Why, And What About Time (limitations)?

Revelation 1:1 The Revelation of Jesus Christ, whichGod gave Him to show to His bond-servants, the things which must shortly take place; and He sent and communicated {it} by His angel to His bond-servant John, 2 who bore witness to the word of God and to the testimony of Jesus Christ, {even} to all that he saw. 3 Blessed is he who reads and those who hear the words of the prophecy, and heed the things which are written in it; for the time is near. 4 John to the seven churches that are in Asia: Grace to you and peace, from Him who is and who was and who is to come; and from the seven Spirits who are before His throne;

1:7 Behold, He is coming with the clouds, and every eye will see Him, even those who pierced Him; and all the tribes of the earth will mourn over Him. Even so. Amen. (NAS)

(Who were the Bond Servants? Who pierced Him? Did this happen?)

Rev 3:10 Because you have kept my word of patient endurance, I will keep you from the hour of trial which is coming on the whole world, to try those who dwell upon the earth. 11 I am coming soon; hold fast what you have, so that no one may seize your crown. (RSV)

22:7 Behold, I come quickly: blessed is he that keepeth the sayings of the prophecy of this book.

22:12 And, behold, I come quickly; and my reward is with me, to give every man according as his work shall be.

22:20 He which testifieth these things saith, Surely I come quickly. Amen. Even so, come, Lord Jesus. (KJV)

The Message Of The NT, (And Especially This Book), Has Been Changed.

The imminence, the urgency, has been negated - so what should we expect?

22:18 And I solemnly declare to everyone who reads this book: If anyone adds anything to what is written here, God shall add to him the plagues described in this book. (TLB)

These verses lay a foundation for every incident of calamity that is tied to the denial of the message of the NT, especially the denial of the positive blessed message contained in the Book Of Revelation. The plagues mentioned are symbolic of war between right and wrong. They portray the result of the preaching of the Gospel and God's terrible vengeance in action. They are associated with Armageddon in a symbolic sense.

It is always those who call themselves Christian and believers in the God of Israel who are the primary recipients of judgment. Note to whom Second Chronicles was addressed. "If my people....." It was not addressed to wicked unconverted people. It is only those who have known the way and have turned from it who are judged so severely.

Second: Let us take a look at an edited biblical based view of "The Battle of Armageddon."

The following edited excerpts are from the "Bible Truths" web site Http://www.bibletruths.net/Archives/BTAR198.htm

Is Armageddon really a biblical subject?

Smith's Bible Dictionary makes the following comments concerning Armageddon:

"Armageddon: (the hill or city of Megiddo ). (Revelation 16: 16). The scene of the struggle of good and evil is suggested by that battle-field, the plain of Esdraelon, which was famous for two great victories, of Barak over the Canaanites and of Gideon over the Midianites; and for two great disasters, the deaths of Saul and Josiah. Hence it signifies in Revelation a place of great slaughter, the scene of a terrible retribution upon the wicked. The Revised Version gives the name as Har-Magedon , i.e. the hill (as Ar is the city ) of Megiddo --ED.)"

The term Armageddon (exact spelling) is found once in the King James Version, Revelation 16: 16. The physical, geographic location is the "valley of Megiddo" (2 Chroni. 35: 22). The Valley of Megiddo was where Deborah and Barak defeated Sisera and his army (Judges 5: 19) and Josiah was slain (2 Kings 23: 29, 30). It was also known as a place of great mourning (Zech. 12: 11).

The setting of the "battle of Armageddon."

The primary text used (the text in which the word occurs) to set forth the Premillennial idea of a great physical slaughter being lead by the military commander, Jesus Christ is Revelation 16: 12-16. This text concerns the sixth angel pouring out his vial upon the great river Euphrates and the consequent happenings. ...... It should also be appreciated that the text of Revelation 16: 12-16 is highly symbolic and figurative. ....... Many have been caused to err because they insisted on placing a physical meaning on spiritual principles and teachings (cp. John 3: 1-9). ....... The required weaponry of spiritual warfare is spiritual in nature rather than material (Eph. 6: 13-17). Consider Paul's emphatic teaching:

"For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places." Again, "For the weapons of our warfare are not carnal, but mighty through God to the pulling down of strong holds…" (2 Cor. 10: 4). .........

The Premillennial physical connotation placed on the battle of Armageddon.

As noted, many today believe and teach that the battle of Armageddon is going to be a literal physical battle in the actual location of the valley of Megiddo in the Middle East. ..........

The Commander of the great army involved in the battle of Armageddon is obviously Jesus Christ, called "The Word of God" (cp. Jn. 1: 1 ff.).

In view of the teaching of the scriptures concerning Christianity not engaging in carnal warfare, the view of Armageddon that involves Jesus and his people in physical combat is utterly untenable and repulsive.

.......... We must be careful not to take figurative language and array it against plain teaching found elsewhere in the scriptures (such as 2 Cor. 10: 4). The primary lesson of Revelation is that of ultimate victory. Revelations is saying, there would be difficulties and defeats, but the righteous would ultimately be triumphant and the wicked would be overthrown (Rev. 6: 11, 12-17, ch. 7, ch. 11, 14: 9-14). The paramount message is, "be thou faithful unto death, and I will give thee a crown of life" (Rev. 2: 10). The record and teaching of the battle of Armageddon, ... is not meant to be understood as teaching some material cataclysmic world battle in which Christians and the wicked will come to physical blows and the Christians kill the wicked. The spiritual lesson is that the righteous led by Jesus their Leader in spiritual conflict will ultimately and completely overcome!

I agree with most of what is said in this portrayal. Note:

There are two distinct aspects of this battle and they are present in previous biblical battles.

1. The deliverance of the righteous.

2. The defeat of God's enemies.

These aspects were also present in other battles such as the deliverance of Israel from Egypt under Moses. A cloud and fire led Israel, while protecting them from destruction. The Egyptian army was destroyed, while Israel was delivered. Note: Israel was given distinct stipulations. They were commanded to do certain things. They had to apply the blood to the door posts of their dwellings and they had to leave in haste, etc. (This is also symbolic of the return of Christ in the First Century, for it involved both judgment and deliverance. Hence the reference to his coming in clouds, etc.)

As previously noted in the scriptures above, Jesus warned His followers and also gave them specific instructions, much of which had to do with their deliverance from a soon coming Armageddon. They were first told to repent. He also told them they would be protected, but their enemies would be destroyed, and all of this had to do with His soon return in clouds and in power.

In the past there has been several calamities tied to the disobedience of God's people. The Roman Catholic system had some of the same tendencies and waywardness as that of the Mosaic system, that was destroyed in the First Century, as have other Christian systems. Many people have suffered because of these influences. Wars are still being fought over and between apostate forms of Christianity.

Previous to Christ's ministry God dealt specifically with Israel, but since that time He has been dealing with all who have been instructed in His ways and this has since come to involve most all nations. Every nation, at some point in time, has received a witness of God's law. Listen to what Paul said here -

Acts 17:29 Forasmuch then as we are the offspring of God, we ought not to think that the Godhead is like unto gold, or silver, or stone, graven by art and man's device. 30 And the times of this ignorance God winked at; but now commandeth all men every where to repent: (KJV)

The judgment he mentions here happened. This does not mean there was to be a complete end of judgment. After the Kingdom came into view judgment then was to descend on those who were on the outside. There were prophecies directed toward the nation of Israel and had to do with their end and they were fulfilled and are to be used as an example. The "land", suffered God's judgment in fulfillment of prophecy.

Those prophecies were perfected and ceased. However, this form of judgment is an on going, never ending, situation. It falls on wicked believers for denying the fulfillment of Christ's ministry here in this earth, and for denying that He is ruling and reigning in His temple now and forever. This form of denial also involves denying His rule through our disobedience to the law that He gave in Matt. 5, 6 and 7. Often the effects of judgment on God's wayward people now effect the peace of the whole world. Do you remember the warning in the last chapter?

Again; When any number of people, who identify with Him, take a stand against His will  they are promoting, and may well end up partaking in, another "Armageddon.

Denying He is here, by example, or denying that He did return as per the NT text, eventually produces another "Armageddon."

Examples Of Present Situations That Are Producing Judgment

Have you checked many Church Home pages?

(Click on the highlighted areas to go to articles relative to that subject.)

There are few Church web sites that have any articles pointing out the sins that are plaguing our society. This may be because they are incorporated and believe they must comply to IRS 501c3 restrictions.

What about homosexuality, pedophilia, pornography, fornicating and lying religious leaders? What about the necessity of caring for the elderly and the schooling of our children? Where are there articles that reveal the doctrines of Mohammedanism? The individual Church sponsored web sites that do provide material on these subjects are relatively nonexistent. Yes there are numbers of Christian web sites that do approach these subjects, but it appears that most do so very carefully and most are controlled by 5013c restrictions. This is true of most big name ministries that provide material for the support of the Christian family. Their voice is being muffled and they are giving forth an uncertain sound. In effect they are speaking out of both sides of their mouths.

The bible's messages are directed to those who say they follow God. Jesus spoke about caring for the needy, for the shut in, for the sick. He had very strong words for those who neglected this area of personal responsibility. He said these things in regards to nations, but individuals make up nations.

People in rest homes are being terribly neglected all over this country. This alone is enough of a sin to produce another "Armageddon." Many Christians lay in these places for years with no visit from the Church they used to attend. I have seen this happen, first hand, and I have discussed this with Christian Ombudsman. This attitude leads to, and supports, euthanasia.

The Roman Catholic Church is in the headlines - some priests have abused children. Yet, the truth is, few Christian fellowships, of any denomination, are free from this plague.

In most cases it originates with homosexual acts, but this is hidden and referred to as pedophilia.

Why do women have breasts? Are they to nurse their young? Are we to nurse the elderly? Too many Christian mothers have never nursed their children at their breasts and too many Christians are too busy to nurse their elderly relatives. These activities produce character and rewards in the now, but they are shunned by most Christians. I have noted Christians who complained about the stink in rest homes and so seldom ever go. Others will tell you they have a life of their own and so refuse to be tied down in a care giving mode. These sins produce "Armageddon."

What did Jesus say about sin?

John 5:14 Afterward Jesus findeth him in the temple, and said unto him, Behold, thou art made whole: sin no more, lest a worse thing come unto thee.

Matt. 12:43 When the unclean spirit is gone out of a man, he walketh through dry places, seeking rest, and findeth none. 44 Then he saith, I will return into my house from whence I came out; and when he is come, he findeth it empty, swept, and garnished. 45 Then goeth he, and taketh with himself seven other spirits more wicked than himself, and they enter in and dwell there: and the last state of that man is worse than the first. Even so shall it be also unto this wicked generation.

23:15 Woe unto you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! for ye compass sea and land to make one proselyte, and when he is made, ye make him twofold more the child of hell than yourselves.

John 8:42 Jesus said unto them, If God were your Father, ye would love me: for I proceeded forth and came from God; neither came I of myself, but he sent me. 43 Why do ye not understand my speech? even because ye cannot hear my word.

Revelation 3:3 Remember therefore how thou hast received and heard, and hold fast, and repent. If therefore thou shalt not watch, I will come on thee as a thief, and thou shalt not know what hour I will come upon thee.

3:15 I know thy works, that thou art neither cold nor hot: I would thou wert cold or hot. 16 So then because thou art lukewarm, and neither cold nor hot, I will spue thee out of my mouth. 17 Because thou sayest, I am rich, and increased with goods, and have need of nothing; and knowest not that thou art wretched, and miserable, and poor, and blind, and naked: (KJV)

These previous verses tell us some of what produces judgment, the following one gives us some idea of how to prevent it.

Matt 5:44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you; 45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust. (KJV)

The world is getting worse just like Jesus said it would?

Present day end time prophecy ministries are instilling lethargy relative to personal responsibility. The following attitudes are produced by their messages.

Jesus is going to fix this world and we must get as many saved as we can, but the world will soon be destroyed, so do not waste your time voting or being involved in your community or your child's schooling??

As Vernon Magee said, "Why polish the brass on a sinking ship." ??

We must repent of all of this nonsense or we will suffer.

God resides in the heart's of His godly, born from above, people, and all who profess to know Him are continually being judged by His word. Those who see Him do obey Him, and they are truly righteous, and go about doing good, and so are blessed. This is the only avenue to world peace. This stops "Armageddons" from happening.
